Downtown Richmond is a vibrant area that welcomes people from all walks of life and showcases the rich creativity and diversity of our community. Stroll along Historic Broad Street and you’ll find the heart of the City, increasingly vibrant and changing, yet ripe with a rich and expansive history. Intermixed with renovated architectural icons full of apartments, condos, and an array of businesses, are numerous art galleries, shops, and many of Richmond’s top-rated restaurants.

Meander south through Monroe Ward and you’ll find some of the most beautiful tree lined streets in the City as well as the most elegant of architecture. A neighborhood filled with the grandest mix of accommodations, dining, and business now boasts the City’s top performing arts center. A walk north through neighboring Jackson Ward promises views of the most cast iron work in the country outside of New Orleans. One of Richmond’s most historic neighborhoods, nicknamed the “Harlem of the South” because of its strong African-American heritage and culture, Jackson Ward continues to grow as galleries, restaurants, and unique urban living options spring up amongst the numerous historic properties built between the early and late 1800’s.

Downtown is also home of Richmond’s most popular arts and cultural program – First Fridays Art Walk – a monthly event showcasing over 30 diverse small businesses, working studios, and cultural organizations. This burgeoning arts and cultural district is located east of Belvidere Street and west of 7th Street, and between Monroe Ward to the south and Jackson Ward to the north. Home to diverse art galleries, unique boutiques, incredible dining, fine accommodations, cultural entities, and independent studios; Downtown has become the cultural destination for Richmond.

Beyond the galleries, restaurants and storefronts, you'll find an equally impressive array of apartments and condos and a collection of nonprofits, architectural firms, advertising agencies, recording studios, law firms, and other innovative businesses that make up the heart of the community 24/7. Whether you’re attending First Fridays, taking a meeting at a local coffee shop, experiencing a concert at one of the local performing arts facilities, or shopping at the growing number of locally owned businesses, anytime is a great time to be Downtown!

For as little as $10, you can help support the efforts of Curated Culture, the organization behind-the-scenes of First Fridays Art Walk. Our primarily volunteer-run group helps to make our community a more creative and vibrant place to live and visit.

Whether you're a Downtown business owner looking to participate in First Fridays, a Richmond based artis seeking exposure through our NEWArtist Registry, a company looking to market to a savy audience, or someone who just loves attending First Fridays, we've got a membership type just for you!
